Colonial Williamsburg and 8 Tips for Your Next Trip

Recently took a trip to Williamsburg Virginia and had the opportunity to tour Colonial Williamsburg. Here are 8 tips for your next visit:

Check Itineraries Online

Before your trip look on the Colonial Williamsburg website to view events and special itineraries including a curated “Bridgerton” themed itinerary.

Park at Merchant Square

Tickets to Colonial Williamsburg are retrieved from the visitor center and is nearly a half-mile away from Colonial Williamsburg. Parking at Merchant Square brings you closer to the Governor’s House and is likely where you will end your day.

Shoot a Musket

Yes, you can shoot a musket but only if you schedule a time which you can do here.

Tour the Coffeehouse

This was my personal favorite tour and it came with coffee and hot chocolate samples. Learn about how the coffeehouse became a place for enlightening conversation across social classes.

Try the Snow Eggs

Dine at Josiah Chowning’s Tavern for a throwback to colonial cuisine including snow eggs. A James Hemmings, Chef’d Cuisine to Thomas Jefferson is a sweet, light and shareable treat. It is made with egg whites topped with powdered sugar, a little orange water, fresh fruit, an edible orchid and set upon custard. Truly delicious.

Special Lounge for Military

Liberty Lounge is a special place for active military persons and veterans to relax for a bit. Be sure to have appropriate documentation upon entering the Liberty Lounge.

Don’t Take Photos on the Stairs

The guide in one of the tours did not warn in advance to not take photos on the stairs and I became a violator of said rule. So, don’t make my mistake and take a photo on the stairs.

Special Events

There are several special events including haunted tours and holiday festivities. Check the website to plan your trip about one of the special events.

Consider a Bed and Breakfast

There are many adorable bed and breakfasts in the area. We chose to stay at the Wedmore Place.

I hope these tips help you during your visit to Colonial Williamsburg.
