Chilling in the sun, digging your toes in the sand and sipping on a pina colada; time seems endless. Wait, what?! It’s August?! Yeah, summer flew by with all those drinks. Although fall is around the corner summer isn’t over just yet.
Here are the 10 Must-Do’s in Toledo Before Summer Ends:
Get to a Mud Hens Game! They are entertaining, fun for everyone and have beer. I often joke that I go to the bar with live baseball. The best part of The Mud Hens is the audience participation. They care about their spectators and go above and beyond, to provide a unique sporting experience. Check out their schedule here for their upcoming themed nights.
“Don’t Look Down!”
Release your inner adventurer and go zip lining at The Toledo Zoo. They have several activities including the sky bridge, ropes course and a quick jump (for the really daring). My favorite part about this experience is the Go Pro rental. Yes, they do cost extra but how cool is it to film your expedition and then watch how silly you were screaming on the zip line? Check out the link here for prices.
“What’s for lunch?”
Lunch at Levis Square is the best perk to working downtown Toledo. They have Madison and St. Clair lined up with a variety of food trucks. In addition, there is live music and yard games to get you pumped up for the afternoon ahead. This is a great way to recreate for your lunch hour. Check out their band schedule in the link here.
“Beer is my friend.”
Are you German? Are you American? Are you neither, but consider beer your friend? Then The German-American Festival (GAF) is the event for you! This festival is jam packed with German heritage, food and of course, beer. I wear my boot around my neck with pride, empty it with dignity and then smash on some amazing potato pancakes. This is a time sensitive event so be sure to mark August 25-27 in your calendars. For more information and how to purchase drink tickets click here.
“Dude, you have barbecue sauce all over your face.”
Do you love ribs and rocking out to live music? The Northwest Ohio Rib Off is an annual event with several rib vendors, live music and booze. This is happening August 17-20. Get your tickets to your preferred music act and be sure to go there hungry. Click here for the event details.
“This is my jam!”
There isn’t 1 but 3 concert series you can choose from!
ProMedica Summer Concert Series kicked off this year and will continue for the coming weeks. They have a Jumbotron! How cool is that! For their schedule click here.
Toledo Museum offers “It’s Friday” concert series. Immerse yourself in the arts culture while enjoying a variety of genres including pop, soul and jazz. Check out their schedule.
Hensville is a great place to go jam out and party on. Why stop when the concert does? Hensville is conveniently located in the Warehouse District meaning bars are a few steps away. Pre-game Hensville style and party all night in downtown Toledo. For a performance schedule click here.
Catching a must see film at a drive-in is what I look forward to every summer. I love sitting in the back of my hatchback, munching on popcorn while enjoying a judge free commentary, through the movie, with my boyfriend. Be sure to check the show times for Sundance Kid Drive-in.
“The park has what?”
Toledo Metroparks are definitely worth the exploration. Have you been to one lately? Pearson Park has a paddle boat pond, Wildwood Preserve hosts events in The Manor House and Westwinds has a public archery range. There is so much to do. Click here for your nearest park and their amenities.
“The bathroom is inside.”
Host a cook out or end of summer bash. What a great way to enjoy the sun by inviting friends, flipping burgers and cracking open some Maumee Bay Brewing Co. beers. I recommend hosting a party when there is an event going on like GAF, Summer Concert Series or a Mud Hens Game that way your group can have quality time together and have fun Downtown Toledo.
“I need a break from life!”
Go on a weekend escape. There are so many places to choose from with a variety of experiences. From Detroit to Columbus, Pittsburgh and Chicago there is a place you can go to get refreshed and refocused. Check back next week for my Weekend Escape post.
Summer isn’t done just yet. Take advantage of these awesome opportunities Toledo has in the coming weeks. Take time for yourself, make memories with your friends and hit Downtown Toledo this summer!
