    Auditioning for The Voice

The Voice was a television break through with their version of the audition process. For once, they focused on the talent more than looks; unlike other talent competition shows. Like any other production, they have their secrets. Despite the illusion, the open call process was positive enough for me to audition twice. I traveled to Chicago, IL for my first audition and to Cleveland, OH for my second. Both times are unique in several ways. Auditioning for The Voice:   “What time do I choose?” When choosing to audition for The Voice be mindful of travel time.Be sure to pick a time that will fit your schedule and leave room…

    Weekend Escape: Ohio Amish Country

Living in Toledo there is so much to do but sometimes I need a change of pace. I have been going to Ohio Amish Country with my great aunt and great uncle since I was a young child. Coming from the flat lands of Northwest Ohio I enjoy the hill landscape and the organic living. Although the scenery is beautiful there is so much to do here beside driving up and down the hills. Here are some of my favorite spots to visit. Swissters This wine tasting/beer tasting/restaurant/store is tucked away from the village center of Surgarcreek, OH. With barrel seats, large wooden picnic tables and live music you can…

Depending on the amount of time you have to play with determines where you will travel to. Here are my top weekend getaway spots: Day Trip Ann Arbor, MI: This is a great place to get away from everyday home life but still make it to your own bed at night. Cedar Point Dos and Don’ts

This past weekend I had the opportunity to spend time with friends at Cedar Point. One individual ,in the friend group, was not from Ohio and had no idea what to expect. It was then I realized not many people know my “local” tricks and hacks to making a fun, efficient and cheap trip to Cedar Point. Being a 419 local I have traveled to Cedar Point so many times the Millennium Force doesn’t phase me (The Dragster is a different story).  Here are my Do’s and Don’ts when visiting Cedar Point:      “Dude, where’s my car?” Parking can be daunting at the front entrance. Cars lined up in…

The 3 Kind of People in a Guided Tour

We have all done a guided tour. Whether for a class trip or as an adult you have been stuck with a group of people for a period of time learning about history. While learning fun facts and seeing things in a new light the people in your group aren’t your most favorite but sometimes the most memorable. For those who don’t know I went to Virginia for vacation; you can read all about it under Road Trip-Virginia and Road Trip-Virginia Pt 2. I visited Monticello where this story takes place. After going through the first floor of Thomas Jefferson’s house we waited to the side of the grounds for…

    Road Trip-Virginia Pt 2

While I was excited for our historical adventure to Charlotteville, VA I was slightly depressed leaving the beach. A little back story on how this trip came to be. My boyfriend and I wanted to go on vacation during the holiday and after tossing around a few ideas we thought a road trip would be fun. I used the app Roadtrippers to map out a few routes that took us to Hartford, CT, Ocean City, NJ, Pittsburg, PA and even Myrtle Beach, NC. Every proposal I gave him he always went back to Virginia Beach; this had never been on my radar before. I finally asked “Why Virginia Beach Kyle?!…

    Road Trip-Virginia

There is something about road trips that make traveling more fun. They aren’t for everyone but definitely worth it if you ever get the chance. Deciding to take on a 10 hour car ride with my significant other was debated but after crunching numbers the savings in travel expenses were worth the miles on the car. We also used Airbnb for accommodations and had intentions to visit both Virginia Beach and Charlottesville. We had it planned to leave at 6 am in the morning and packed a cooler to reduce the amount of stops in hopes of arriving sooner. No 10 hour car ride would be complete without listening to all…

    18 with Idol Dreams

Most people, when they finally turn 18, much rather buy lottery tickets or attend a club. I had other dreams. I told myself at age 16 I would audition for American Idol. Lucky for me, the week of my 18th birthday, American Idol was hosting open call auditions in Pittsburgh ! My best friend, who played guitar, and his older brother, who was also a musician, wanted to chase down their dreams. Thanks to their mom we packed up the van and headed to Pennsylvania where we would put it out there. We discussed all the possibilities and began to excite ourselves with our dream of being a contestant coming…
