Grab a Bite to Eat at Bourbons

If the Disney character Gaston had a restaurant Bourbons is what it would be. Dim lighting, rich brown leather seats and a large bar are a few of the elements that make this establishment stand out.

There are many drinks available on the menu and the Spanish Coffee involves coffee, booze, whipped cream and FIRE. It is entertaining to watch being made.

I went with the Cherry Wood Smoked Brisket open-face sandwich. The meat was sweet and tender. I highly recommend this menu item.

Get Wild at Howell Nature Center

Love animals? The Howell Nature Center is a great place to go on a nature walk and encounter some wildlife. From raptors to a bobcat there are a variety of animals available to see. Serving nature in Livingston County for 55 years the Howell Nature Center rescues animals, hosts a variety of educational experiences, houses campers throughout the year and offers ziplining.

Sip on some Wine at Spicer’s Orchard and Winery

For five generations the family-owned Spicer Orchards has been serving the community for over 50 years. By 2009 the orchard expanded to add a winery. Spicer’s Winery is a great place to sip on some spirits and take in the atmosphere. Here are the flavors I tried:

  • Mango Habanero hard cider – starts sweet and finishes with heat

  • Catawba – sweet, light and vibrantly colored

  • Cherry fruit wine – rich cherry flavor with hints of spice; perfect for fall and winter seasons

  • Dessert Red – rich in flavor and 19% alcohol; similar to port wine.

  • Vidal Ice Wine – very sweet and well balanced

  • Red Demi-Sec – balanced semi-dry wine; great for those who don’t like sweet wines
